Every year around late Summer (Aug) I cover my boxes with thick black plastic in an effort to use the hot SF sun to solarize the soil and hopefully eliminate pests. This year I planted a couple eggplant seedlings that I had started along with my lettuces in late Spring. I thought I might make it to see a couple eggplant before the plant would succumb to our torrential summer rains. I had however just installed the box covers so I was a little optimistic or maybe diluted, or a little of both.

We toughed it out, aphids, mites, moths, etc. Here she is in all her “beauty.” Eggplant parmesan, anyone?
